We've spent a number of weeks reviewing the survey results from our last update and we've been exploring our options and brand strategy. To provide you with more insight into our thought process, here are a few learnings we've gained through the current campaign:
1) The current regulations on batteries and power banks result in premium freight options as our only option internationally. This limited our campaign's potential.
2) Although some disagree, many of our backers feel that power banks are a commodity and are not novel enough to be offered at a premium price even with strong design and cosmetic/brand appeal. We get that and appreciate the feedback.
3) We had planned to launch the travel carry all tote, but have a new concern that without a power bank, the solution is incomplete. We are leaning toward cancelling the travel tote concept based on the feedback from backers. If you feel otherwise, please comment on this update.
We love developing products for this brand and are confident we could pivot and chart a new course to take the product line in the right direction. We welcome your input on next products. A few key communications as you approach this next campaign:
1) Power Banks require us to jump through a few shipping hoops. We've done our homework and are confident we can execute well. International (non-U.S.) shipments must go via FedEx, which is a more expensive solution. We will continue to look for creative ways to bring these costs down to make these products more accessible globally. Also - the power bank alone (without the Micro Lamp) cannot ship to some countries - so we recommend you buy the combination to ensure we can deliver to your address. 2) All products will ship in August. Timeline summary: Kickstarter Campaign Feb/Mar; Funding Apr; Production Apr/May/Jun; Ship Across Ocean Jun/July; Prepare logistics/fulfillment Aug. If we can shave some time off along the way - you know we will. This campaign is more complex - we will offer regular updates throughout the entire campaign - stay close. 3) Power Bank Results. Everyone's devices/battery capacities are different and results will vary. We named the power bank the Slate X3 because (only 11.5mm thick) it will charge an iPhone 5 or iPhone 6 up to 3 times. That equates to not just hours, but DAYS of added use. This is a best case scenario. If you use the phone at all during the charging period the results will diminish. One or two full phone charges should get you through most adventures, so rest assured, this is a travel tool you'll be glad you invested in!
4) We wish you could touch and feel the power bank before you pledge. The finish and cosmetics are premium and feel like they should be a component in a luxury vehicle. The rubberized oil painted finish creates an amazing soft grip accented by chrome. Pictures just don't do it justice.
